Social inclusion and Sustainability of Waste Pickers Cooperatives in the City of Resende-RJ in the View of
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

Abstract: The research diagnosed the working conditions for the social inclusion of solid waste pickers, through the creation of guidelines for compliance with the right to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and social security provided for in art. 6 of the Constitution of the Brazilian Republic. Work practices, working conditions, risks and materials were evaluated; the impact on the health and quality of life of cooperative waste collectors in the municipality. The concepts of OHS were applied in the activities carried out by the cooperatives of the Municipality of Resende. It was also identified opportunities for improvement in the work processes carried out; operational working procedures and methodology for maintaining the working conditions of the collectors were created; training of the cooperative, in order to prevent and avoid accidents at work within Cooperatives. This joint action between academic community, city hall, cooperatives and society, in which demand technical knowledge, planning and actions to adapt the current situation of the Municipality will corroborate to reduce social inequalities in harmony with sustainable development.
