Maximum Capacity Anaysis for Spillways Like Orifices
Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, National University of San Antonio Abad of Cusco, Peru
Abstract: The Project was developed initially in a hydraulic evaluation for a system of rectangular sand removal tanks type BIERI principally in the spillway, curved walls and close hydraulic structures in order to optimize a major water quantity requirement in the Dam at Water Power Station of Machupicchu located in Cusco Peru. The spillways at the sedimentation tanks exit is deficient because the inferior water thin layer shown a vertical downfall because the shape developing an empty place which generates cavitation and consequently a highly turbulence at the exit of the spillway. The first model was developed for stationary flow for each sedimentation tank without modifications which can conduct seven point four cubic meters per second in their maximum normal operation. A second model was developed were spillways were forced to work as orifices which can conduct until eight cubic meters per second, but the sedimentation tanks were flooded. Finally, after include a curved flap in order to avoid water strangle specially in superior water thin layer at the entrance of the spillway and a Picocio spillway type U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in order to avoid cavitation and highly turbulence the system can conduct nine cubic meters per second. To prove the hydraulic efficiency, two curved blades were built for one sedimentation tank.
