The Climate Crisis and Its Impact on the Territory, Economic and Social Effects
Abstract: Extreme weather and climatic events (heat waves, heavy rainfalls, drought, etc.) have significant social and economic consequences for society. The European Environment Agency (EEA) has quantified the economic losses by hydrological, meteorological and climatological extreme events in the period 1980-2015 at € 433 billions. Insurance company states the biennium 2017-2018 was the most expensive with a worldwide economic losses of 515 billion dollars. The climate is changing faster than expected and its impact is becoming more and more evident. The scientific community agrees that we will have a significant increase in the intensity of these events while concerning their frequency, there are still elements to be analyzed in depth. In this paper is analyzed the state of climate change at global and local level, from the arctic sea ice extent to the trend in temperature and rainfall in Tuscany.
