Abstract: This study explored the potentials of geographic information systems (GIS) in data capturing processing and analyzing to produce a GIS data based power supply map using GPS and GOOGLE MAP for MMMUT Gorakhpur as an area of study. The methods adopted in this study include data conversion, data acquisition, spatial database query, attribute database creation and ground-truthing. The study utilized the following assessment parameters — a measurement of the location of the power supply line (underground power supply and overhead power supply). The developed GIS-based power supply map is unique and utilized as a centralized power supply network, databases have full information regarding power supply location and ensure that in future if there is further underground construction of any water supply system, sewer system, they don’t intersect or cause any damage to the power supply system. Location of any defect in the power supply system can be easily detected and repaired.
