Abstract: The population increase in different cities around the world, has generated the increase in the amount of domestic solid waste that requires an adequate final disposal. This article deals with a case study for the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia), where approximately 1,300 T/d are buried in the Normandy landfill. Due to constant complaints and claims from residents of Normandy, the Departmental Competent Environmental Authority contracted the preparation of an Environmental Audit for the Control of Environmental Quality. As a result of the work carried out, it was evidenced that among the main environmental impacts generated by deficiencies in the sanitary burial of garbage, are the generation of bad odors that are what most annoy the population and the contamination of groundwater in a perimeter about 1 km around the landfill. The main conclusions and recommendations of the Environmental Audit as an environmental management tool; will serve to improve the final disposal of solid waste. This work was presented at the XXXV Congress of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering of AIDIS in 2016 in Cartagena (Colombia).
