STEAM in Kindergarten
(Monte San Julián Public School, Spain)
Abstract: The Early Childhood Education stage is a fundamental stage to lay the foundations for human and academic growth in the life of each boy and girl. Moreover, all the prerequisites of language and mathematical and linguistic concepts must be acquired at this stage in order to be successful in learning in the Primary Education stage. Due to the characteristics of the students who attend Early Childhood Education in Spain from 3 to 6 years old, all learning is globalized and structured into three areas: growth in harmony, discovery and exploration of the environment, and communication and representation of reality. Taking these specifications into account, the STEAM methodology is presented as the most appropriate to be able to develop these areas since its characteristics are curiosity, observation and manipulation, the same ones that our students present. When talking about STEAM, reference is being made to working on the contents of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.
