40 Years of the School of Hydraulics: Past, Presence, Future

Abstract: The Polish Academy of Sciences has a system of Institutes, which carry basic and applied studies. Academy has also a system of Scientific Committees, which have the aim to discuss and disseminate knowledge from a given discipline. The Committee of Water Resources Management established in 1981 organization named School of Hydraulics. This School defined its aim as dissemination of scientific and engineering knowledge among scientists, engineers, designers and managers. This would be done during one week meeting organized every year. It was connected with the visit to a hydraulic structure in construction or already in operation. In 2023 there was the 40th anniversary of the School foundation. In every anniversary there is some kind of look backwards, the view of the present situation and some prospect for the future. The aim of this paper is to present the idea and operation of the School of Hydraulics during past 40 years. 40th School of Hydraulics was organized as international school in Katy Rybackie close to the Baltic Sea shore.
