Waterproofing of Bridge and Viaduct Decks in New Construction and Rehabilitation Works

Abstract: The main cause of non-structural anomalies and one of the main causes of structural anomalies in bridge and viaduct decks is related to material degradation due to water infiltration. Often, this is the result of inadequate waterproofing of the respective deck. This work aims to emphasize the importance of waterproofing new road and railway bridge and viaduct decks and including waterproofing works in the rehabilitation projects of such structures. It outlines the objectives, conditions, and application details of the waterproofing system using polymer-modified bitumen membranes.
