Abstract: Nowadays, the rapid development of science and technology along with the boom of information technology, new knowledge, enhancement of technology and technical creativity, requires humans beings to equip themselves with the capacity of self-directed learning, to adapt to the current situation. Self-directed learning is being considered as an appropriate approach for education in the context that knowledge is increasingly diverse, complex and especially important in the industrial revolution 4.0. Through this approach, learners can establish their own learning plans in line with personal conditions in order to meet their learning demands. With the goal of transforming a teaching process towards an approach of self-directed learning for students, theoretical research methods, investigative methods and pedagogical experimental methods were used. This article proposes a procedure of teaching technical drawing according to approach of self-directed learning for students at the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) University of Technology and Education Vietnam. Thereby the results are promoting the process of a new organization of (experimental) teaching and learning for students, and contributing to renovation of (traditional) technical teaching method. self-directed learning, students of university of technology and education
