Abstract: The video recording of on-campus lectures has become an instrumental tool for teachers and a useful resource for students. However, the recording systems must take into account that classrooms are now complex environments where the teacher might have multiple spaces to explain a lesson (e.g., blackboards, computers, laboratory instruments, etc.). In this context, the present work introduces MONOCLE, a tool that is able to detect the posture of the teacher and then select the most suitable recording device within the classroom at each moment. To do so, it relies on mobile sensing capabilities. In particular, it makes use of the gyroscope sensor of a mobile phone to distinguish whether the teacher is sitting or standing. Based on that, the lecture is recorded via webcam or screencast. Finally, the tool has been tested in a real-world use case showing quite promising results

Key words: classroom recording system, mobile sensing, on-campus lectures
