 Relationship Lecturer-Student as An Determinant

of the Teaching Effectiveness

Abstract: The aim of the paper was to search for an answer to the research question: does the relationship between teachers and students have an impact on the effectiveness of teaching? The means used to obtain theanswer was a confrontation of two positions: of a student and a lecturer, which was developed on the basis ofliterature studies and participant observation. The issue researched was based on the assumption that the learningprocess should be used to satisfy the educational needs of students. The problem is presented from the perspective of observing the functioning of Polish universities.In order to operationalize the concept of the educational needs of students A. Maslow (1990) theory of needswas used. Out of seven needs mentioned in it, five were selected based on the analysis of the problem: the needfor security, belonging, recognition, self-fulfillment and the knowledge and understanding. The structure of thetext consists of five main parts for the description of the sources of meeting these educational needs. Each of thempresents the expectations of students and a way proposed by the teacher to satisfy them. Thanks to that it waspossible to confront the two positions.
